Raymond Wattenhofer, Jr. (my father) has been a professional artist since the early 1970's. He began his career as a Western art bronze sculptor and later transitioned into painting, with a focus on oils and egg tempera. The majority of his pieces are available as Giclée prints directly through his website.

Branding is the one time that ranch hands can put their roping skills to the test. When Eric quietly rides up on a calf it's a good bet his loop will settle where he intends it."

I make many pilgrimages to the Badlands of North Dakota, both for the serenity and the amazing variety of rock formations that stimulate my imagination and lead to wonderful works of art. "Badlands Summer" is an exceptional oil painting, capturing the landscape as the sun glides overhead, altering the terra via ever-changing shadows & light."

Approaching the rugged South Dakota prairie bison is an adrenalin rush and not for the faint of heart. This magnificent creature captured in oil demonstrates the fierce, survivalist nature of the great beast but also a keen intelligence, as seen in its penetrating gaze."

Farming and animal husbandry are as much a part of daily life in Northern Minnesota as the lakes and trees of the surrounding wilderness. The cows are of hearty stock, able to withstand blistering cold days and bitterly cold nights with permeant resilience."

Water is a big part of Minnesota life, particularly the Mississippi River, which begins its 2,320 mile southward journey ten miles from Raymond's home at Itasca State Park. The river's beginning is humble, with the stream narrow and shallow enough to walk across in just a few steps. The view shown is just north of the Mississippi Headwaters in a wet marshland area. This painting is a fine representation of its lovely clear blue waters and the endless rolling northern landscape."
